Description

The Global Growers Network creates new agricultural opportunities in Georgia for international farmers who were forced to flee their homelands as refugees, due to war, genocide and persecution. The Network uses a whole-systems approach to produce good food, train and place farmers, and create economic opportunity for local communities in the Decatur-Clarkston-Stone Mountain area. Global Growers provides support and start-up assistance to our network of community gardens, and features the Burundi women's community farm, Umurima Wa Burundi, as the anchor producer for the Global Growers Market Co-op. Other locations include: Decatur's Kitchen Garden; a community garden at 40 Oaks Nature Preserve in Clarkston; and Bamboo Creek, our farmer training site in Stone Mountain. The Global Growers Local Farmers' Certificate Program provides farm plots for hands-on production experience at a Global Growers Bamboo Creek Farm in Stone Mountain. This program prepares experienced farmers to start up independent, local farm operations. Identified by the Global Growers brand, our local produce will be prepared for distribution at our newly developing local food hub in Clarkston, designed to meet the needs of local producers and community members who seek high quality and culturally unique foods that are not easily found in supermarkets. Good food will be sold at local markets, to local restaurants, through a Global Growers CSA, with additional distribution through the Clarkston Community Center food co-op. Our local food hub offers workshops in food safety, marketing, and marketing finances; to maximize economic opportunities for Global Growers producers.
