Description

Our farm is the remaining acreage of a larger farm that has been in the family for almost four centuries. My Stepfather, Craige Moore, began an organic small grains, beef and vegetable operation here in the late 1970's. He was a pioneer in his field but eventually began working off the farm. The land however continued to be managed organically to this day. I, Matthew Garrett, saw potential in the old place and moved home and began making plans for a sustainable small farm. It became very clear in the first days of planning that direct marketing was not only desirable but necessary. As a first step we both served on advisory committees to develop a local farmers market. The farmers market was a great success and provided a means to develop a customer base. This is by all means an extremely small operation but has been well received by the community and is growing quite rapidly.
The mission of Garrett's Garden is to provide the community with locally grown clean food. We specialize in Vegetables grown using organic standards and pasture raised laying hens. Pigs and goats also call our farm home. At this time we do not operate a farm stand but do sell at the local farmers market and at scheduled pick-up dates throughout the week. A CSA is being planned for the 2009 growing season.
